Set up in 1972 in the Khor Khwair Industrial Area, Ras Al Khaimah, Union Cement Company is the first cement producer of United Arab Emirates. H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of UAE inaugurated the unit in 1973, few months after the foundation of the UAE federation, flagging off a journey to become an organization that is diversified and self-reliant is committed to contribute to the economic development of the nation and create value for all its stakeholders.
In alignment to our goal to provide products of the highest standard, Union Cement Company was the first cement manufacturer in the Middle East, to have obtained the ISO and API certifications. We have been steadily adding capacity and markets, along with leveraging a logistically advantageous position with our proximity to the Mina Saqr Port, and have emerged to be one of the leading domestic suppliers and exporters of cement and clinker. We serve the markets in Gulf, Middle East, Africa and Asia. Our products have been used in several prestigious projects such as the Dubai Golf Club, Burj Al Arab, and Abu Dhabi Mall, to name a few.
Adapting sustainable manufacturing practices is integral to us, a significant aspect of which is reducing environmental emissions and power generation through Waste Heat Recovery. The current installed capacity for green power generation is 26.5 MW.

1972
The first cement producer ever to be established in the United Arab Emirates, in the Khor Khwair Industrial Area, Ras Al Khaimah, the Union Cement Company becomes a flagbearer of the industrialisation initiative.

The first line is commissioned under the management of ‘Norcem AS’, a member of Heidelberg Cement Group.
In an interval of two years the second unit is commissioned and capacity increases to 1500 tonnes per day.
1977
1979
The third cement unit is commissioned raising the cement production capacity to 1.2 million tonnes per annum.
The promise of high standards reinforced with the American Petroleum Institute (API) Spec Q1 certification. UCC starts production of API certified Oil Well Cement under the brand ‘Norwell’, becoming the only cement company in the United Arab Emirates to be producing oil well cement for next three decades.

ISO 9000 certification obtained – a testimony to provide products that are a benchmark of quality and services that are a customer’s delight.
The company gets ISO 14001 certification and becomes the first ever cement manufacturer in the Middle East to have obtained an ISO and API certification.

2006
A milestone achieved with the commissioning of ‘Plant 4’, a 10,000 metric tonnes per day clinker production kiln that increases the clinker production capacity by 3.75 times - from 1.2 to 4.5 million tonnes per annum.
Union Cement Company becomes the biggest cement manufacturer in the United Arab Emirates with the commissioning of Cement Mills 5 and 6, as the total cement production capacity rises to 4.8 million tonnes per annum.

2008
A breakthrough year with 11x increase in annual sales – from 275,000 tonnes in 1977 to 3.0 million tonnes in 2008.
OHSAS 18001 certification pledging the company’s dedication to Health and Safety. In the same year UCC achieves total clinker production of 3.28 million tonnes surpassing all past records.

An Indian public listed company and one of the top three cement manufacturers of India acquires shareholding and management control of the company.
The company creates history with the production of 14,500 metric tonnes per day of Clinker from a single kiln – the highest ever in the world.
